Labyrinthes (2009)

« Malajube returns with an even more idiosyncratic, off-kilter pop masterpiece after 2006’s Trompe L’Oeil proved that Montreal’s francophone rock community was just as capable of cracking the worldwide marketplace as its anglo counterpart. Opening track "Ursuline" is a difficult-to-penetrate six-minute epic with sparse vocals. The tracks that follow continue to baffle and astound with unconventional structuring and pacing, long instrumental sections and a blending of musical styles that would seem ludicrous on paper. Album highlight "Casablanca" begins as a light tropical summer tune and then explodes with a guitar and choral chanting outro before it quickly segues into hard rocking album centrepiece "333." The ’60s psychedelic pop of "Luna" is the closest the LP gets to something single-friendly, but Labyrinthes is at its best when Malajube play it by ear and explore lush musical panoramas with little regard for hooks or conventions.» (Erik Leijon, CHARTattack)

Étienne d’Août (2007)

Étienne d’Août single is full of surprises and has an happy ending! It starts with a new version of Étienne d’Août, one of the most important songs on Trompe-l’oeil but with more piano and vocals. Then comes, nothing less, a "remix banger" of Filles à plumes followed by a new song M. Pupille only available on this single. To end this masterpiece, a Elton John kinda version of Étienne d’Août. This version, renamed Elton d’Août will put love in all mothers’ hearts with the strings arrangement and orchestral harmonies.

Trompe-l’œil (2006)

"Already a serious contender for album of the year, this sophomore effort by Montreal’s Malajube is the best francophone indie-rock release in recent memory. Catchy, heavy, light, playful and exhilarating - it rocks non-stop, and in a multitude of ways. The underlying theme of sickness runs through the disc like death did the Arcade Fire’s Funeral. But it’s filtered through textured, sweeping and frequently beautiful songwriting. Guests include rappers Loco Locass, singer Pierre Lapointe and Dears members Martin Pelland and Valerie Jodoin-Keaton. This is a big record, a great record, by what could very well be your new favourite Montreal band." 4.5/5 (T’Cha Dunlevy, The Gazette)
